Tom,

from a quick check around it seems there are a host of possibilities with mp3, of which the chief is bitrate. Since I did all the files the same way I don't think that's my problem. There's file damage during transfer, memory shortage at the critical time, and (this seems a possible) audio players vary in how they solve problems of corruption.

But I'll see if there are clues to which it is tomorrow. I just jad a much lesser glitch with today's file, but it played fine on a second click, so I assume that was a download damage first time.

Joseph,

I'm sorry to report that I still get the same results - first time crashes IE6 and all subsequent attempts result in simply a short 'squeak'.

I've had mpeg4 files crash my browser, but when they do, Microsoft states that I don't have the correct CODEC for the file type. I've never had that kind of problem with MP3 files before this, though.

Since I didn't "Send Report" to Microsoft either time the browser crashed with your page, I don't know the cause of it, but it may be related.

It has nothing to do with memory - I have 1 gig of fast RAM on a 3 ghz dual-P4 multimedia production system.

I also don't think it has anything to do with CODECs, because I am able to 'download' it and play it perfectly through Windows Media Player 10 - all 20 seconds of it.

I looked at the source and everything looks fine, so I am at a loss at this point of ideas on what might be causing the 'squeak'.

Let me know if you figure anything out - I'd be interested in knowing.

Cheers,
Tom

had not played properly, cutting off half-way through for me and replaying just that first half again. For Riva it played correctly but for Tom it gave just a squeak. I have deleted it on the server and uploaded it again and it now worked okay for me.

Could Riva nad Tom - and anyone else who would like to - please check that it now plays for 20 secs (it's an mp3).

Thanks

Joseph
