Hi list
I've been asked to quote on a web site which can be viewed in multiple
languages (4 I think) however I can't give them a price if I don't know what
I'm doing! So, I come to your collective brains on how best to achieve this.
This client already has a site based out of Belgium for a product. This
product, however, is not available in UK-controlled markets and therefore
would like to redirect visitors who are in these UK-controlled markets to a
separate site. This site is to be available in (I think) 4 languages.
Now I was thinking brute-force approach having a country select page at the
beginning and redirecting the visitor to the appropriate language on the
appropriate site (fortunately anything controlled by the Belgian site is
none of my responsibility). This would however mean maintaining 4 different
versions of the UK-controlled site for each of the languages available.
Is there a more elegant way of doing this? Determining geographic location
through IP and then auto-redirecting? Single design shell filling in body
text from the appropriate language data file?
Obviously the budget isn't going to be there to do anythign fancy but at
this stage I'd like to explore alternative ways of doing this so I can give
some competitive quotes.
So, ladies and jellyspoons, your advice on how to achieve this please.
TIA
MOU
P.S. Riva: you fired your client yet? Any further developments?
