I do a lot of work in the Apache foundation. They have quite a number of public Wikis (see: http://wiki.apache.org/) and from what I know, SPAM entries haven't been an issue up to know. I am not sure if they have any special anti-SPAM means, but I think there aren't very many except maybe blocking some IPs. They require you to create an account before you can write to the Wiki, but that account creation process is entirely automatic. But first of all, "Wiki does not forget", i.e. you can always revert back to the version before the changes and second, if someone has to create an account and confirm it via email you got at least some hurdle to spammers.
Might be worth a try.

I would prefer a wiki! I'm sure Luc has the space/ip/traffic to host a forum or wiki, but doesn't have the time ATM.
IMHO a forum would split the (small) community from the mailling
list.
I think a wiki would be a nice addition to the mailinglist. I do not have much experience in running public wikis, especially I'm concerned about SPAM entries....
