You cannot do this with Python. you need to do this with JS:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang='EN'>
<head>
<title>Testing </title>
</head>
<body>
<h1>Medicinal Plant List</h1>
<script>
   onclick = function(){ var t=jQuery(this).attr("href"); alert(t); }
</script>
<a href="http://www.google.com"; name="My Link" onclick="onclick()">My
Link</a>
</body>
</html>
