I remember when I was using mainly windows, Google Chrome (Webkit based,
like Safari) seemed to have the most trouble.

Try Opera or Firefox (or even Amaya) - in any case, having multiple browsers
will serve you well in developing web apps ;-)

A glance at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_web_browsers will show you
there are ~4-5 prevelant rendering engines in play (depending on how you
look at it)...
