Can you check that you have gluon/dal.py>?
If so, what if you replace in file
/home/arbie/cvstash/gluon/compileapp.py", line 24,
from sql import BaseAdapter, SQLDB, SQLField, DAL, Field
with
from dal import BaseAdapter, SQLDB, SQLField, DAL, Field
