I think Anthony and pbriet are right about the 'copyright' being the cause. If I try and run the included Python Interpreter directly from within the app bundle it doesnt seem to include a "copyright" built in.

Im new to web2py and while its easy enough to run the source code version this really should be fixed for the Mac App download on the site.
