OK, I think I get you now. You can swamp out everything in the layout.html 
file but always remember to include the {{include}} directive in the file. 
(this is a must for other views to be able to "extend" the layout file) and 
also include the web2py_ajax.html file in the header for ajaxy stuff like 
response.flash et.al. Thats all you really need.
