| Hi Dean,
Did you try the latest release (0.8.7)? Some people have had better luck with that. If that is what you were using, the next thing to try is to get the latest cvs-build. While that probably will not not work any better, it does generate a lot more debugging messages. Try that and send me the messages generated on the console log. Maybe that will help.

I just bought a generic 1.3 megapixel webcam that looks strikingly like a Logitech QuickCam 4000.
The camera status at the bottom of the macam window says: "Connected to Generic ZC0301P Webcam" however all I get is a black screen. When I click the blue Play triangle I get multi-colored pixels across the top of the screen which freeze (see screenshot below). Adjusting the brightness and contrast change nothing. Apple System Profiler lists the device as:
PC Camera:
Version: 1.00 Bus Power (mA): 500 Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec Manufacturer: Vimicro Corp. Product ID: 0x301b Vendor ID: 0x0ac8
Based on the instructions, I was hopeful that this would work since the camera was recognized and the camera seems to be quite common, based on what I found on Google (webcam seems to be associated with SPCA5xx family). Please let me know if I am doing something wrong or if I can help you with testing. I am running a 12 in. G4 PowerBook 1.5 GHz CPU with OS X 10.4.6 with 768 megs of RAM.
Much thanks,
Dean Stavraka
P.S. I also tested the webcam on a HP laptop with Windows XP and the camera worked fine.
