I just downloaded Macam 0.8.7 and am in an absolute state of shock! I have an old C-PIX SDC 2000 el-cheapo camera that I had all but trashed after getting a really good digital camera. It is a low-resolution camera that was advertised as "suitable for email photos" and its PC Cam abilities were said in the manual to be limited to PCs only, therefore unavailable for Macs. Macam 0.8.7 recognizes the camera as "connected to Argus DC-1510 or similar" and it does so without even having batteries installed in the camera!!! Both Image Capture and iPhoto 5 recognize the camera.
Here are the particulars: Name = C•PIX Model = SDC 2000 Vendor ID (from System Profiler) = 10096 Product ID (from System Profiler) = 37152($9120) Bus Power = 500 Speed: up to 12 mb/sec Just downloaded iChat AV 2.1 and also installed iChatUSBCam 2.1. Now the C•PIX SDC 2000 works as a web cam....on my end at least. Just have to find a friend who has a web cam to test out chatting-with-camera, but from all indications, this will work.
