Hi Robert,

OK you used the macam application to establish that your camera works, that is good. And you copied the macam.component into the /Library/QuickTime/ folder, also good.

There is a global /Library/QuickTime folder and of course your personal one; the macam component will work in either location, but you should make sure you don't have an old, outdated component in the *other* location that might cause trouble.

Also, after you copy the component, you have to restart whatever application you want to use the webcam with. You don't have to restart the computer, just the relevant application. You can also do a logout/login. Basically, whenever an application starts, that is when the
QuickTime components available are registered etc.

I don't know much about the mercury messenger application; that could be a problem too. To verify your macam.component installation, I suggest you use the HackTVCarbon application (Google). This is the simplest possible application that tests the component.
I would also suggest trying Skype, as it now supports video.

Let me know how it works out,
Harald

Hello,

I have a problem, my girlfriend is in a different province right now and we have been trying to video message eachother. she has a macbook pro with a built in isight wich works fine on ichat, but my camera does not. I downloaded the demo version of ichat usb cam, but it does not recognize my camera. i have downlaoded your mac cam component and it works great for taking pictures and making videos with my camera. i have a aGent 1.3MP CCD, the mac cam recognizes it as a "generic Z30301P webcam". the problem is, no other application seems to recognize it. im trying to use it with mercury messenger, but it keeps telling me there isnt a webcam hooked up to the computer. i dragged the mac cam component into my library/quicktime folder, its not working though.

is there anything you can tell me to help me out?

thanks,
