THANK YOU!
Macam has rescued me from hours more effort to try to get a web cam to
work on both of my Macs. Before I ran across macam on a website
somewhere I was tearing my hair out over the web cam issue. I bought
two different USB cams at Best Buy that listed on their packaging that
they were compatible with Mac OSX. Neither of them worked, and one was
a total disaster. I had even reconciled myself to having to buy the
iSight cam so I called Apple computer when I didn't' find the iSight
anywhere on their store pages. I was startled, amazed and truly annoyed
when the young female Apple tech blithely told me that Apple had
discontinued the iSight cam. I was further annoyed when she continued
on to say that "there is a really nice cam included into the new
MacBook computers". I acknowledged that it indeed is convenient to have
one built into your laptop screen but since my Power Book G4 is less
than a year old I don't want to dispense with it and order a MacBook
for a couple of thousand MORE dollars. Nor do I want to retire my G4
dual which is not three years old yet.
You may find it interesting to know that the Apple store rep insisted
that I not buy a USB cam, and said that I could probably use "most" of
the firewire cams on the market.. The problem is that one can not find
a firewire cam easily at all, and they are much more expensive than the
USB cams, as you are undoubtedly aware. As luck would have it, I had
just purchased a Creative Cam Instant about a month ago for my Windoz
machine. It worked beautifully on Wndoz but did nothing at all on my
Macs. When I reviewed your website page for camera compatibility, I was
pleasantly surprised to see that the Creative Cam Instant was on the
list.
I confess that I downloaded Macam with a great deal of doubt and
suspicion. I had already crashed Windoz XP with one cam installation,
and had no luck with any USB cam to that point - and I had tried at
least six different USB cams on both Macs. I was amazed at the
simplicity of the installation and the ease with which macam installed
and operated on both my Macs.
I was particularly anxious to get a web cam up and working on my Power
Book, because I travel to Costa Rica where I have a vacation home. I
often use Yahoo instant Messenger to stay in touch with my elderly
parents in the states. They particularly enjoy chatting with me and
their grand children on Yahoo with live cam. Over the holidays I had to
borrow a friend's Windoz machine in order to do cam chat with my
parents. Now I can chat away on cam with my eighty year old mother and
father, without resorting to borrowing another computer.
You have made two octogenerians very happy! Thank you again.
Rod Knowles, M.S.
Here are the stats from my computer: I first tried the cam connected
directly to the USB port, and then tried it on a four port splitter. It
works fine on both.
