Hello, I'd like to mention an interesting result of using Macam, but first a bit of background, I guess. My Mac is an iMac G5, running 10.4.9. I first tried using a Logitech Quickcam Pro 5000 before I realized it was not supported! I then swapped my Pro 5000 for my brother's Quickcam Communicate STX, as it was in the list of supported cams. Unfortunately, the Macam application reports no camera attached. I then tried my mom's Quickcam Zoom, and it DID work. I "settled" for this cam for awhile, but out of curiosity, I tried the STX on my Tangerine iBook, running 10.3.9, and it worked, both in the Macam app and on Stickam (sp?)! I thought it unusual the "low-tech" iBook would handle the cam where the iMac G5 would not, using the same version of software.
However, while shutting down a frustrating Yahoo! messenger app (used by a friend) I noticed it was reporting the STX connected. Again I checked the Macam app, but it still reported no camera. I then tried Skype, the app I REALY wanted the camera for in the first place, and sure enough, the STX works! Since I did not find any reference in the FAQs about this, I thought I'd pass it on. I hope I'm not "revealing" anything you already knew. :/ Again, on my iMac G5 running 10.4.9, the Macam app does not detect the STX, but the Macam component appears to be diligently working correctly. As well, the System Profiler does not show the camera in the USB devices. It shows a (Belkin) hub, the keyboard and mouse, and my printer, with only a "USB Device," which I assume to be the camera, on the second bus (out the back of the iMac).
