Hi, The encryption key is used to encrypt user's passwords in the database with a two-way algorithm. This is done so that passwords are not stored as clear-text in the database, but still can be converted back to clear text for use in authenticating with a backend (webdav/caldav/whatever). For a first time install you can enter anything here and webical will use this from then on. If you are migrating to a new version you must use the sane encryption key as the previous install.
I can't say why it isn't accepting your input though. You're not getting any stacktraces or any other information?
