Should be. Some of the patches skipped from trunk has been those breaking ABI. 
I am personally using QtWebKit 2.3 simply replacing QtWebKit 2.2 from Qt 4.8, 
and that seem to work. But I haven't run any ABI testing tool on the 
libraries.

The only reason recompiling should be necessary is to take advantage of new 
features.
