I did and do agree that "view" is not an appropriate CSS class for the menu, and "rendered-menu" is okay for me. But your patch needs to ensure that no cascaded rule in the CSS is broken afterwards, i.e. one that applies to the menu or some of its children but relies on the menu having the "view" class.
