From: Lynne Roney <lynnero...@sbcglobal.net> Date: Tue, 22 Apr 2014 10:43:19 -0700 (PDT) X-Message-Number: 1 Hi web managers, Our branch has gotten a few requests to add links on our web page to someone's software product or web resource (e.g., a list of MBA programs). I would not add a link to a commercial product, but it's less clear whether some of these sites are related, or not, to the AAUW mission. I'll bring this to the branch board. In the meantime I wondered how others have handled this and whether anyone has an official policy about it. National does not tend to link to third party sites anymore unless they are an event/program sponsor, partner including membership benefits, or they are referenced and linked directly from content. While this is not a written guideline, we are trying to adhere to a links within context rule rather than the old âblogrollâ style. From: Yvette Wernick <yvettew...@gmail.com> Date: Tue, 22 Apr 2014 14:03:00 -0400 X-Message-Number: 5 Lynne, Thanks for asking Lynne, that's a very good question. I believe we have received that same request (MBA program list). I must say, she is relentless as she continues to follow up regarding her request; I might be able to learn a thing or two from her with regard to getting ads for our state convention program book. I was just about to ask our president to pass her request onto our seasoned webmaster for evaluation. Our president checked a couple of links and it didn't appear so current to her. I had wanted to do a bit more extensive search of the site before I made an argument either way. However, I'm currently trying to hit a heavily looming deadline. My thoughts are that it currently doesn't fit our model or provide much use to our current members. However, our focus is changing and we expect a greater effort going forward to attract a younger membership. To do so requires offering what they need. If it becomes known that good list as such is located on our site, it could bring greater traffic and visibility. I've not had time however to look at it yet. I've also thought of tasking my new 19 year old intern with it, but her classes end this week. Perhaps our Web Master, Judy S. could follow up with you. As with much of our current membership, she is often traveling, so I'm not sure is she will have time immediately. I'd tell the woman you're researching the possibility, and will get back to her in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, maybe when we can get a chance to look at it and share feedback with each other. Hope this helps! In the meantime, check out our FB page, and send your link so we can check yours out. https://www.facebook.com/pages/AAUW-Ann-Arbor/330969827028406 Kind regards, Yvette Wernick AAUW-MI SSM (734) 223-6921 On Tue, Apr 22, 2014 at 1:43 PM, Lynne Roney <lynnero...@sbcglobal.net>wrote: > Hi web managers, > Our branch has gotten a few requests to add links on our web page to > someone's software product or web resource (e.g., a list of MBA programs). > I would not add a link to a commercial product, but it's less clear whether > some of these sites are related, or not, to the AAUW mission. If you see merit in any requests coming your way, I believe they should be referred to National for vetting. Wimpy, but safe. Joyce Katz In a message dated 4/22/2014 1:03:33 P.M.
