Try increasing the log level and see if there is any more info. My
first guess would be that it has something to do with the DNS not
resolving properly.

Yes, it does look like a timeout. Was anything else affected by the
power outage? Were there any firewall / network changes as a result
of this or done at the same time?

I recall a problem something like this once when the FrontBase plugin
referenced an external DTD in its plist and the machine it was
running on did not have firewall access for outgoing requests.

After the delay there are no more message. just the usual "waiting for
requests..." message. The instances run fine after that.

I did a ping from webserver to appserver to database server and vice-versa.
They is no delay there.

Still I'll check and ask the network guys if firewall settings are ok!

Thanks for our replies,

Virat

The issue is resolved.
The DNS entries had to be updated with new IP Addresses.

Thanks for providing the solution.

Hello,

We have a server with WebObjects Deployment and 40 different independent applications. I do understand that this situation is probably not typical
but it works for us since all the application have very small memory
footprint and they don't eat up much CPU time.

The only major problem that we are facing is the slow concurrent startup of all the applications. We had to increase the "Time Allowed For Startup" to 900 seconds for each application but still some of the apps fail to start which leads to strange effects like wotaskd not seeing the app that started up due to wrong value of WOLifebeatDestinationPort (which is to some reason equal to the port of the previous app), or monitor failing to launch an app
complaining that the port is already in use.

Unfortunately, we are now experiencing some hardware problems that lead to occasional server reboots and therefore major headaches after each reboot.

Is there any way to do a phased startup of applications? It sounds logical
to launch one app a time.

 Will this work:

Phased Startup

If this option is selected, when a wotaskd process starts up, the instances that it manages that have Auto Recover selected are started one at a time instead of all at once. This option is selected by default. For more information, see ?Auto Recover?.

The problem is that I have many applications each of which has only one
instance, so what I need is phased startup of applications and not
instances.
