Sacha and Kieran,

I was searching through the archives and found a tread from March 7,
2006 that matched a problem I am having. Unfortunately, I never found
out how the problem was solved . . . the thread dies off before the
solution is reached. Can you, or anyone else, tell me how to fix this problem?

I am trying to solve a problem with one of my app servers. I have a
number of XServes that are running as WO app servers. They are all up to
date with patches and updates (10.4.8), but for reasons I won't go into
here, we are still running 5.2.4 WebObjects.

On all but one of the app servers WebObjects applications are correctly
running as appserver. But on one of our older machines, which started
life as a 10.3.x box, all WO processes are running as root. It has been
doing this for some time, and I need to correct it so that a script that
I run to keep wotaskd running will work (again, don't ask . . . my
script checks to see how many java process are running as appserver, and
if it is only one, it kills that process, forcing wotaskd to respawn and
then our apps to relaunch . . . I call it wotaskdGoneZombie.sh).

At any rate, I don't want the script to be killing root processes, so I
need to get the server running as appserver.

Thanks

Robert
