it was indeed a problem with mod rewrite rules having lowercase
entries. I have now edited the offending entries and can now see my
webpages again!

Hi Clive,
check if the rewrite rules generated by ServerAdmin are OK. At
least for Redirects it always saves them completely lowercase for
me, which renders them basically useless.
The files are in /etc/httpd/sites.
