Success!

Increasing that 5 second sleep is the only thing I can think of to try and resolve this.

Hmm, it is the proper hostname, but since adding the sleep command to wotaskd (and rebooting), I find that now, when I add a host (the same old one and only host) it reliably adds the correct IP address (not just 127.0.0.1) to it. Still not quite working after a reboot (it has IP address unknown assigned to that host), but deleting the host, adding it again (at which point correct IP address sticks again), and firing up an instance of each WOapp in turn, works! Maybe I just need to increase the '5'. Either way I am a happy punter, as I have a workable solution!

Thanks guys, if I can get to WWDC 08 there'll be a few beers with your names on :)

Thanks again, I can barely see what I'm typing through the tears of joy...

If this _is_ the name you are using, your server is probably too fast. The WO services are starting before the networking stuff has settled down. IIRC, the fix is to add a sleep command to start of the script that launches the WO stuff. I have not had to do this yet, so I don't recall the details.

"I thought my solution was definitive! :-) See the thread titled "Security
Update 006-2007". Just edit
/System/Library/WebObjects/JavaApplications/wotaskd.woa/wotaskd and add a "sleep 5" (no quotes) up near the top. Haven't heard one complaint about
that solution yet."
