i've been bitten by that same mistake numerous times in the past. the
solution is wonder properties. we've never looked back.

if i were you i would have

Properties.customerA
Properties.customerB

.... then configure Customer A's deployment to run your apps as a user
called customerA, etc

we do exactly this for our staging server - Properties.staging, and
the staging server runs apps a user called staging.
