Hi there,

I really appreciate that. I'm new to open source as I've been a windows

I recently switched to the Mac platform and want to do more development on

Hooray!! Reeled in another one... I was never good at real fishing.

So I've been investigating these technologies so I can really dive
into it.

Great. Keep reading and asking questions. Not everything will click into place at once, but you'll keep adding onto what you know as time goes on.

Here's a suggested learning path for WebObjects (other's might have further suggestions).

I suggest firstly (if you haven't already) obtaining a thorough understanding of the foundational concepts covered in Apple's online tutorial(s). i.e.,

==== Getting Started with WebObjects ====
http://developer.apple.com/referencelibrary/GettingStarted/ GS_WebObjects/index.html

==== BASICS/FUNDAMENTALS ( suggested logical order of reading ) ====
--> "Documentation" link from http://developer.apple.com/tools/ webobjects/index.html
+ WebObjects Overview [1]
+ Xcode 2.1 User Guide
+ Web Applications
+ WebObjects EOModeler User Guide
+ WebObjects Enterprise Objects Programming Guide

==== TOPICS OF INTEREST ====
+ Programming Topics: http://developer.apple.com/documentation/ LegacyTechnologies/WebObjects/WebObjects_5/Topics/TopicsTOC.html
+ WebObjects XML Serialization Guide (optional) [2]
+ WebObjects Deployment Guide

==== APIs: also listed in the documentation section (whatever is relevant) ====
+ WebObjects 5.3 Reference Update || WebObjects 5.2.4 API Reference
+ WebObjects Dynamic Elements Reference
+ WebObjects Extensions Reference (optional - good learning for creating custom re-usable components)

====  Helpful 3rd party resources ====
http://www.stepwise.com/Articles/
+ Developer:WebObjects
+ Developer:WebObjects:Deployment

====  Wikis ====
+ http://wodev.spearway.com
+ http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Programming:WebObjects --> fairly blank now but that may grow in usefulness (certainly has a good list of topics listed for you to investigate if anything)

====  blogs ====

Again, others may have collected some other useful sites (at which they'll hopefully chime in now).

Web Objects and PostgreSQL do tell a very compelling story and that is the
only reason I've stuck with it thus far.

Yep.

I know the ends will justify the means :)

Sometime the means is just down right frustrating! But it has been my
experience that this is also the best way to learn!

Ditto.

with regards,
