For those of you not on our webobjects-announce list, a message was posted
this morning. Normally I wouldn't forward these, but we haven't used
webobjects-announce in a while and maybe some of you unsubscribed. :-)

Subject: WebObjects 5.3 and J2SE 5.0

Although J2SE 5.0 Release 4 is an excellent Java update for most
applications, WebObjects has not been certified on this release of Java and
initial testing has revealed the following issues:

€ A BigDecimal number compatibility issue exists due to a change in the
JDK's toString() returning scientific notation when exponents are needed.
This affects EO fetching. A workaround for this issue is to not lock on
BigDecimal EOAttributes. Another is to modify the scale and precision on
EOAttributes in your application.

€ As explained in Release Note at
<http://developer.apple.com/referencelibrary/java> for J2SE 5.0 Release 4,
the OpenBase JDBC driver included with WebObjects is not compatible with
J2SE 5. You will need to get the latest driver from OpenBase
at <http://www.openbase.com/> if you wish to try this combination.

We welcome feedback on WebObjects running under J2SE 5.0 and encourage you
to file bugs using <http://bugreport.apple.com/>. Please understand that
WebObjects 5.3.x running under J2SE 5.0 is not a supported configuration and
the above list of issues is not exhaustive.

If you have already installed J2SE 5.0 Release 4 on your Mac OS X (Server)
system and would like to use the supported 1.4.2 JVM with your WebObjects
applications, please see document 75505 "WebObjects 5.3: Using Java 1.4 With
Mac OS X After J2SE 5.0 Release 4 Is Installed"
