You can't use EOF. Hibernate has it's fans. Not me. Cayenne is considerably closer to EOF than Hibernate and you will pick it up and run with it really fast. Hibernate is akin to a poor EOAccess layer. Cayenne gives you some EOControl, and some interesting additions besides.
For a simple web framework that plays nice with Cayenne, have a look at Click (if you need to do web app stuff) - http://click.sf.net/
