To my way of thinking, it is not a matter of a paper copy or of
remuneration (writing a book is easily the least efficient way of
making money).  The issue is visibility.  Having books on shelves and
in Amazon.com lends much more credibility to the technology than self-
published and self advertised books.

Just wanted to add: Some self-publisher printers such as Lulu.com let
you resell through Amazon and others...

Lulu lets you sell your work through Amazon, Borders, Barnes and Noble
— and on Lulu itself. Lulu handles all transactions, order tracking
and shipping.

However, there may be issues in stocking - longer wait times than
books from established publishers, Amazon orders on demand only at
first to gauge demand - and related logistics work when self
publishing.

That said, if all else fails,
we will likely self publish our next book.  But I really hope it does
not come to that.
