you're right, it was a stupid question...

Well, let's check the code: are you migrating from a version to
another? this can be the problem, because there are many changes in
the new WO version, eg. did you notice that from the 5.1 to 5.2 the
relation fault has been changed?

If you aren't changing the version of WO, the problem should be in the
network creation code: if you've changed some socket settings or the
data flow.

Yes, the working service does on both Safari and Firefox. The non-working
one causes Safari to display the 'Lost network connection' message and
Firefox displays a blank page.

Wait a minute! Did the working service return the "This is a Direct to
Web Services application..." message, when you are using Safari?

Hi, thanks for coming back.
I don't think it is a browser issue because the Web service itself isn't
responding to the client app and another service I have on that server gives
the expected result in Safari. I am using the standard Apache etc
installation in OSX Server 10.4.8.
At your suggestion I have tried connecting using Firefox and it just returns
a blank page, no error messages. The working service returns the expected
"This is a Direct to Web Services application..." message.
Thanks again for your suggestion,
Gordon.
