So your task is to find out why that is.

In looking at the code you can see that displayBoard is being lazily created the first time something asks for it on the page.

Figure out why that is not happening and your problem is solved.

Java classes don't need a constructor declared if your object doesn't have any construction parameters. All Java classes get an implicit YourClass() { super(); } generated by the compiler.
