Looks like Scriptaculous tries to calculate the DIV height to start iterating, but the initial calculation is wrong. Or anything else...
Basically,yes ... It appears that scriptaculous effects don't proper handle, I believe, animating margins. I think the popping you see at the end of the animation is the margin appearing at the end of the animation. It's incredibly lame ... Scriptaculous is total junk, but unfortunately switching away is not a small amount of work.
