I know that the community, Mike, Chuck, Pascal, Anjo and ... , are doing great work to promote WO, but I not totally agree the way they do it.

I give enough money to Apple, buying Macs, iPhone, iPods and iTunes Music ( I'm very happy client, http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?i=191345352&id=191345213&s=143442 ), I don't wants spent time to do the marketing of a non opensourced product (WebObjects), marketing they have never done.

The question I'm asking to myself and you , what could we do to convince Apple to opensource WebObjects ?

It's simple : Apple is a business with stock options, so they only want money like all public-listed business wants. And the annual surveys that I do are to show to Apple and the rest of the world that people ARE using WO outside of Apple, but the problem is that according to last year survey, the community outside Apple only have... 385 developers! I can't think of any other ways to find out how big the community is.

And also WO is getting bad press lately, either in the Web medias or on Twitter so only four of us are answering to people who say stupid things. For me, it look like the community just don't care. People have to realize that getting bad press is not helping, if someone wants to learn more about WO and do a seach on Google, they will find outdated tutorials, people bitching about WO URLs (without understanding why they are like this) and news about WO support being dropped in SL.

Apple lives on hype and money, and we don't generate hype and we can't show, outside of the surveys, that Apple is making money with us. So for me, WO is almost dead for outsiders, but hey I'm stupid so I will continue to pay from my own pockets to organize WOWODC and host wocommunity.org.

Why Apple is doing opensource for some technologies , WebKit, Grand Central Dispatch ... but not for WO ?

They don't have patents on WebKit...
