Markus,

The New button is usually provided by the page wrapper or the menu header so 
you should be able to control whether it gets displayed on your own. e.g: The 
New button in ERModern based apps is configured in the NavigationMenu.plist

In ERMODEditRelationshipPage isEntityCreateable is supported as a key.
