Oh John, You're just saying that because there is no support available for Java Client anymore (was there ever?) other than a couple of us really stubborn guys that may or may not be paying attention to the list and may or may not even be actively writing Java Client apps anymore and any new advances in WOLips (like bundleless builds) don't work with Java Client development.
Other than that, Java Client is a great! I also highly recommend heavy drinking and self-flagellation as complementary pastimes. Seriously though. Java Client apps will work just fine with WO 5.4.3, but it will be a serious uphill battle to figure out how to make it work within the context of the modern toolset, and you'll wage that battle almost entirely by yourself. I just tried the D2JC project template in WOLips that I created a while back and it didn't work, and I don't have the time right now to figure it out. Sigh. Maybe I should have listened to Chuck back in 2004 when he said that Java Client was dead and that it would be the singularly hardest way to learn WO. Nah! It was great fun that really reinforced MVC in ways that have made me a much better developer. Especially in the context of Cocoa clients….
