I think you are looking for: EOFetchSpecification.html#setUsesDistinct(boolean) http://wocommunity.org/documents/javadoc/WebObjects/5.4.2/com/webobjects/eocontrol/EOFetchSpecification.html#setUsesDistinct(boolean) But I'm not sure that all DB plugins create proper SQL for distinct queries. I remember having some issue with it in the past, especially with regards to using it on FetchSpecs that have EOSortOrderings with Oracle (http://issues.objectstyle.org/jira/browse/WONDER-507).
