You can try these scripts, they don't use PIDs from a file:

and for JavaMonitor
http://www.berkling.us/wobootstrap/womonitor
Check/verify the paths to JavaMonitor.woa and wotaskd.woa first before you use
the scripts.
They should go into "/etc/init.d". You might have to run "update-rc.d wotaskd
defaults" so wotaskd runs at boot time.
I always run JavaMonitor manually:
sudo -u appserver
/Library/WebObjects/JavaApplications/JavaMonitor.woa/JavaMonitor -WOPort 8080
