Is that standard for other communities?
It is quite common for user community forum sites. (e.g. treocentral, macNN, Unix Sockets devsite, etc. basically you can go out and find a million PHP-vBulletin forum sites and find some derivative or even derivatives of off-topic forum(s) (Some of them break up their off-topic into seperate types of off-topic.). ;) And although osol.org is not a user community, most of the OT traffic is primarily from users. (I'm not 100% convinced this is necessarily true.) We have a place to send new users seeking help, but we have no place to send people who are just using osol-discuss to chitchat. Now arguably it could be said that there isn't a place for this type of discussion here, as there are plenty of social networking sites and whatnot. Me I'd rather not tell people to shutup, or go to another site. I'd rather have a place for them to hangout. I myself would like to occasionaly let down my guard, and just talk to other community members about general tech stuff. Also as the Sun community gets to know the non Sun community, people WILL want to start talking about off topics. Let's call it the lounge, or just [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Being that we like short and cryptic syntax). :) Cheers, Brian > It seems a little out > of place, but since people are already using os-discuss for random > discussions it might make sense to give people somewhere else to go so > that os-discuss can be more focused. > > Derek > > > > > > Cheers, > > Brian > > > -- > Derek Cicero > Program Manager > Solaris Kernel Group, Software Division > -- - Brian Gupta http://opensolaris.org/os/project/nycosug/ _______________________________________________ website-discuss mailing list [email protected]
