Hi Alan,

Thanks for reviewing, my replies inline.

Ah, interesting. When you showed me your architecture,

The arch document is just a draft proposal for the new infrastructure that isn't out for wide review yet. This Docs landing page is plugging a hole in the current site, based on metrics for documents that are downloaded most frequently on the site and a manual audit of all communities and projects on the site.

I mistakenly assumed the documentation link would go to the doc community site, not a doc aggregation page. Honestly, not sure what to think about that.

We aren't linking from the main home page navigation menus directly to any communities or projects so that users always see a landing page that shares the same navigation as the home page. In order to have Documentation as a top-level link, we needed to create a landing page under /os so it could share the common navigation. Does this make sense?

Certainly, access to info at a more immediate level is a good thing. I do think keeping this list fresh and up to date is going to be a challenge.

I was impressed by how many interesting documents have been posted in 2008, to me this is a good problem to have. I'll audit quarterly, but please send along anything I've missed or links that seem stale.

Couple of things about your beginning/ending bookend paragraphs referencing the doc community. Given my attempt to focus on discrete audiences (contributor, translator, downloader, developer, admin) on the doc community page, maybe say something more along lines of....

The _Docs Community_ provides detailed information on how to
participate in OpenSolaris documentation, access to open sourced
documents, and pointers to detailed information about setting up
    and developing OpenSolaris.

My personal preference is to use fewer inline links, so maybe just the one to the Docs Community page and let that be the portal for user access of the info rather fork folks off to multiple links within the paragraph. Am sure there are usability arguments that cut both ways on use of inline links. My $0.02.

OK, thanks, I've made this change.

Hi all,

I've drafted a Documentation landing page for the site this week, with a link in the main left-navigation. It is just a first draft, so any and all comments are welcome. (Note: I replaced the Get Help link with this one, since Bill implemented the Get Help icon in the upper-right last week.)

Let me know what you think about the sections, order, accuracy, and if anything is missing and general sanity checking. Where I'll need your help most is keeping this fresh, so as you find and read or post new documents, send the links to this list and we'll add them.

Thanks!
Michelle
