Thanks Shawn, That makes more sense. Knew there had to be a reason.
I was able to find the package's legal info on the website by looking for known files in those packages. "pkg list -a" only lists the versions. I have since found /var/pkg/pkg, which contains the license info. I guess I then have an RFE: can you put some wording on the search page to indicate this limitation, and suggest people enter some filenames to get what they need? Thanks. One more question if you can: are SVR4 packages being used at all in OpenSolaris? I thought I heard that SVR4 packages were obsolete and no longer being used, but I notice there is quite a bit still in /var/sadm. I installed SUNWlighttpd from /release, and noticed that SVR4 entries appeared for SUNWlighttpdu (user) and SUNWlighttpdr (root). I see there is a "legacy" entry in the /usr/pkg/pkg.../SUNWlighttpd14/*/manifest file. Is that basically just for some kind of backwards compatibility that need certain SVR4 packages be installed? The reason I ask is that it looks like on: http://dlc.sun.com/osol/docs/content/IPS/ipsdev.html that you can install either SVR4 *OR* IPS packages. Or do they get converted from a SVR4 to an IPS format? If there's a high-level overview section in the FM, I'm happy to go RTFM if I just knew where to look. I don't need anything really low-level.
