Just want to add my voice to support what Laurent said.
In my observation many opensolaris contributors that employed by Sun
just do not appreciate enough how rough can the user experience of
other opensolaris contributors be at times. Only because they do not
have access to Sun corporate resources. (email @sun.com for example).
Making various shortcuts for Sun employees makes no good to community
in general. It does, however, help alienate non-Sun-employed
("external" as people at Sun call them [really pisses me off])
contributors.
Well, it seems that the answer is that Sun has decided to downgrade
all list administrators to moderator status, and take admin control
directly.
No, we didn't. Elaine was discussing doing this due to the white listing
issues and the fact that lot of admins don't manage the lists anyway,
but no, it's not going away.
In 2004, when we accepted Sun's offer to migrate our mailing list to
their system, we got a written warranty that this would never happen.
I'm both angered and deeply disappointed by that move. I can only hope
it's only a technical decision that will be reversed soon, and be
discussed as it should, openly.
Nothing has being reversed b/c nothing has been done yet. We are going
to propose some changes to the filters but we'll send a note to all list
owners before it happens.
For now, it's time to go to bed for me.
Laurent
