Hi,
Could you please inform me when the next release of open solaris(supposed to be
released in start of may 2009) is? Is it delayed because of oracle's
acquisition of sun?
I want to get this latest release through a cd. I hope you make it very user
friendly like windows in terms of
installation, clean unintallation of OS and applications,
formatting and partitioning of hard disk, checking errors and defragmentation,
very less or no unix commands,
very less learning curve for using the OS.
Remember one more thing unistallation of an application should completely
remove all the traces of application. I should not need apps like registry
cleaning and system optimization,etc.
Setting up networking and setting up and connecting to internet should be very
easy.
I still found on the sites that open solaris is still need to work on this.
Ubuntu is somewhat better compared to other unix operating systems in terms of
installation and usability.
I will pay 500 INR (~ 10USD) as annual subscription for the open solaris if you
provide it through a CD and provide automatic open solaris updates for all
kinds of bugs/hotfixes/security updates/service packs and hassle free(minimal
intervention by basic knowledgable user) automatic upgrades to next release. I
can pay 1000 INR (~20 USD) if you provide other important free ware
applications through CD like open/star office, firefox, thunderbird, etc.
Inform me if I can get this CD from sun's office in Hyderabad (Hyderabad,
Andhra Pradesh, India. I think there is a sun microsystem office here in
Hyderabad.)?
It is also very good if you can provide support for issues we are facing at a
price of 200 INR(~4USD) per issue. I request you don't neglect individual users
or users with open solaris, large number of issues from individual subscribers
will be the bigger revenue generator than any corporate subscription revenue.
This is how banks work (Taking small amounts from large number of people and
lending large sums to small number of people/organizations. Sr. mgrs took huge
exposure to risky assets in the present situation. Because it is NOT their
company after all.).
My point is don't neglect these very small amounts. Establish a group for
individual subscription support apart from corporate subscription. Don't
distinguish between solaris and open solaris users. I saw at
http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/index.jsp, you are not at all targeting
basic desktop windows users. you are at the most targeting enterprise
developers and students.
Regards,
Sridhar
