I read that site *before* posting.  I posted the comment above because
the specific issue I'm addressing (the use of relative links) does not
seem to be answered in that document except to say "avoid" it.

What should document authors do instead?  Just make all relative URLs
absolute manually?

(If the translator can deal with absolute URLs in a given document, I
would have expected it'd be trivial to add support for relative ones, so
the omission is a bit puzzling ...)
