Today is my last day at Oracle. It's been six years since I joined (then) Sun to help launch the OpenSolaris project and it's been a great experience for me. There have certainly been some ups and downs along the way, but I've been always been impressed by the drive for innovation that surrounds Open/Solaris -- both inside and outside the company.

I know there are a lot of questions right now about the future direction of the code/product/community, and I wish I had some insight as to what the future holds, but I do not. All I can say is that the engineers here are as dedicated as ever and I look forward to seeing the results of that work in the coming years. As for the community, clearly things are different than when we first started, but the last six years have shown the value and potential of the OpenSolaris community and I believe it will continue to grow - in some form or another.

Regards,
Derek
