Saw a quick post from Florian saying you're looking into self-hosting
wordpress, so I thought I'd drop in my 2 cents :)

It plays very nicely with nginx/php-fpm. With correct settings and plugins
it can go very quick. There's also a setting you need to stick in wordpress
code to force it to use url rewiriting (it tries to detect apache plugins,
which obviously fails). You can also log it down quite well using php
open_basedir and equivalent settings.

I'm also told the w3 total cache is worth a look, supports caching of whole
pages or individual database queries. Couple that with APC or memcache.

It's also way too easy to get plugin-happy, sadly.

I'm not by any means saying I'm an expert at wordpress or hosting it, mind
:)
