what do you mean with "use custom xpath functions"?
The most time we use xpath expressions within the normal Webtest Steps like
<clickLink xpath="//div[@id='someID' and contains(*,
'@{someNumber}')]/p[a='a Reference']/a"/>
You could reuse this steps with definitions.
