If either reST or YAML is free software, couldn't one just take the
parser from it and produce some type of semantic XML (i.e. <title/>,
<p/>, <img/> etc.) and then transform that into whatever fancy-XML DTD
you're looking at using?

If either reST or YAML is written in Python, I can volunteer to take a
look at doing this.
