Let me suggest the adoption of patch 608957 (If-Modified-Since support).Ken,
To me, it seems backward of WebKit to cache data across
the (very fast) disk to memory gap, while ignoring HTTP support
for caching across the often vastly slower network layer.

Subject: Re: [Webware-devel] Apache 2 support for mod_webkit and release 0
.8
Anybody have anything else they thing should get addressed for the beta 2 release? I have updated release notes accordingly, and will put a note in regarding the Apache2 support. It is definately looking pretty stable.
I agree that Webware should support this. It is one of the patches that I too would like to see adopted sooner, rather than later. But we also have a strong requirement to not introduce anything remotely unstable for the 0.8 release, I don't currently have the time to go over the patch thoroughly enough to fully test it out and apply it. It looks significant enough that I would want to set up some test cases to make certain that it was having the desired effect, as well as not causing any undesired effects.
It has been my intention to try and get this issue, as well as some other issues addressed in Webware soon after the 0.8 release. For my part, I have have been hesitent to try changing too much in Webware/CVS in the last several months because people have begun to rely on the CVS trunk. Once the 0.8 release is out that buys us some time where CVS can be used for development again, as fewer people will need to be working off of the CVS trunk, and can be using a good stable release instead.
If others have tried this patch, or some of the other developers can chime in with a "Yeah, I am fully confident that it will work without any difficulty or incompatibilities at all" then I could see trying to get it into 0.8. But right now, it is unfortunately my opinion that it is not a good candidate for the 0.8 release.
Thanks for the patch. I will try to get it addressed shortly after the 0.8 release if nobody else jumps up and does it.
