Doesn't HTTP/1.1 have a keepalive, which would presumably make penalty
for the chatter considerably less?  Though I was never clear on how
keepalive worked, or even if it actually existed.  (Would the adapter
have to support it somehow?  Or does Apache just keep the connection
open for a while in case the client wants it?)
