I'm no Can expert, but according to Jay they are analogous to Java beans.

My commentary now: Interestingly, most of the Java beans specs just covers 
what it means to use objects and follow some style guidelines. I'm sure to 
what extent Jay intended Cans to be like Java Enterprise Beans or just 
plain Beans.

He'll have to fill in the rest.
