This approach seems to work for psp files outside the htdocs tree; I specified them using:
<[EMAIL PROTECTED] file="../../external_psp/myfile.psp"%>
My previous approach, using <psp:include>, did not work. Thanks for the tip, and thanks for the other suggestions from the list as well.
