Jill- In Kansas, the authorization is valid for a year (unless otherwise specified by the patient) and it is our policy to not disclose information that was generated after the date of the patients signature on the authorization. At the time they sign the authorization, they have no way of knowing what will happen after that date; therefore, could not be making an informed decision about what to have disclosed in the future.
We never use or honor 'blanket consents' that do not specify exactly which info is to be disclosed, the specific reason, to whom, etc. Hope this helps.
