BCBSM is responding to the rumor posted on the WEDI SNIP Testing Subgroup List on December 13th.
The rumor is false. BCBSM did not acquire a special extension relative to HIPAA Compliance with DHHS. On July 22, 2002
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network did file our compliance plan to gain the one year extension
in accordance with the Administrative Simplification Compliance Act.
This standard extension moved our mandatory compliance date to October 16, 2003. However, please note that BCBSM and BCN plan to be in compliance with most of the transaction and code set standards by the end of 2002.
